ABOUT
“Wisdom is oft-times nearer when we stoop than when we soar.”
~ William Wordsworth
Nature is my guide. My work is intimate, fragments of the natural world I find at hand, traditional imagery presented in slightly non-traditional views.
Underlying my approach is my study of the psychology of visual perception. My focus thus is less on reproducing faithfully a specific flower or leaf than on using formal elements of painting to highlight the eye’s movement around the page, the flicker of light and shadow, the feeling of being fully present, and often a hint of what cannot be known.
The activity, for me, is an immersive integration of physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual.
Once I complete a painting, however, it belongs in all but the narrow sense of property to the person viewing it. It is my hope that you, the viewer, will experience the work fully.
